Welcome to the first concert of our 61st season. Clarinettist, Jonathan Sage joins us to perform
Mozart's glorious Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra. Jonathan will be performing tonight on the basset clarinet. He has previously performed this
Concerto with the London Mozart Players.
Sitting either side of the Concerto are two operatic overtures that have always delighted
audiences. Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischütz and Louis Hérold's Zampa; one at the start of the era of romantic opera and the other a lighter
look at opera.
We close with Dvorák's Symphonic Variations. First performed in 1877, the work has been an
orchestral favourite amongst musicians and audiences ever since Hans Richter introduced it to the Viennese in 1887.
Pre-Concert Talk
Frank James will give his entertaining and informative pre-concert talk at 6.45pm.
Please note that tonight's talk will be in the Vitadome Lounge.
