Welcome to the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra – one of the UK’s premier amateur orchestras.

Congratulations to our intrepid audience who braved Storm Arwen on the 27 November, to enjoy an evening of mystery and passion in music by Romberg, Dvorak and Rimsky-Korsakov! As several people commented, neither Covid closure nor the elements could dim the orchestra’s star; in fact the enforced absence from the concert hall has made its light even stronger.

Orchestra members were delighted to be playing together again for an appreciative audience, and the ensemble, soloists and our ever-energetic conductor were all on top form!

Now we are looking forward to the next concert of the season on 12 February 2022, focussing on dance in classical music. There’s Stravinsky’s Dance Concertantes, spiky and brilliant, featuring soloists from the orchestra; Hummel’s thrilling Trumpet Concerto with the young Holly Clark; and Borodin’s famous 2nd Symphony, full of Russian soul and a work that has sometimes been danced as ballet.

This is an evening to which we especially invite school students (for whom tickets are free) but of course everyone is welcome for what will be a concert of rich sounds and lively rhythms.

Don’t forget: we are always on the look-out for young talent to join us. If you are Grade 7 or above on your instrument and would like to experience the excitement of playing with one of the best amateur orchestras in the country, get in touch

Tickets are available online via our ticket page and can be purchased on the night at the door by cash or credit card.

Details of the remaining concerts can be viewed on our Current Season web page or by downloading the season brochure below.
